My 5-Day Kedarkantha Trek Itinerary (Dehradun to Dehradun)

Here’s how my journey unfolded—day by day, emotion by emotion.

Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri – The Journey Begins

  • We gathered at Dehradun’s Prince Chowk, a mix of excitement and nervous energy in the air.
  • The 8-hour drive took us through Mussoorie’s winding roads, past Purola’s apple orchards, and finally into the remote village of Sankri (6,400 ft).
  • As we climbed higher, the air grew crisper, and the first glimpses of snow-dusted peaks made my heart race.

The Moment That Struck Me: Standing in Sankri as the sun set behind the mountains, I felt a deep sense of calm and anticipation. The Himalayas weren’t just a place—they were a feeling.

Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab – Walking Through a Frozen Fairy Tale

  • After a hearty breakfast, we began our trek through dense pine forests, the ground crunching underfoot.
  • The trail was moderate but enchanting, with occasional patches of snow growing thicker as we ascended.
  • Juda Ka Talab (9,100 ft), a frozen alpine lake, appeared like a scene from a fantasy novel—icy, serene, and hauntingly beautiful.

The Moment That Struck Me: Sitting by the frozen lake, sipping steaming ginger tea, I realized how rare it is to find such pure, untouched silence. No phones, no distractions—just nature and my own thoughts.

Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base Camp – Into the White Wilderness

  • The trek to base camp (11,250 ft) was short but steep, with knee-deep snow in some sections.
  • The landscape transformed into vast, open meadows, the kind you see in adventure films.
  • We practiced snow trekking techniques—learning how to use microspikes and walk on icy slopes.

The Moment That Struck Me: That evening, as the sky turned shades of pink and gold, we huddled around a bonfire, sharing stories with fellow trekkers. The cold bit at our noses, but the warmth of camaraderie kept us going.

Day 4: Summit Day – The Night We Touched the Sky

  • We woke at 2:30 AM, headlamps cutting through the darkness.
  • The final ascent was brutal—steep, icy, and exhausting. Every step felt like a battle between my body and mind.
  • And then… sunrise at 12,500 ft.

The Moment That Struck Me: As the first rays of sunlight hit the snow-clad peaks, I felt tears welling up. The Swargarohini range glowed like fire, and for a moment, I forgot the cold, the fatigue—everything. I was on top of the world, in every sense.

Day 5:  Juda Ka Talab & Drive Back to Dehradun – Bittersweet Goodbyes

  • We descended through thick snow, retracing our steps  Juda Ka Talab to Sankri.
  • From there, a jeep picked us up, and we began the long journey back to Dehradun.

The Moment That Struck Me: Looking out the window as the mountains faded into the distance, I felt a strange mix of fulfillment and longing. The trek was over, but the memories? Those would last a lifetime.
