The Kedarkantha Trek is one of the most popular and beginner-friendly treks in the Indian Himalayas. Located in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, this 6-day snow trek takes you through dense pine forests, charming villages, and snowy meadows—ending at a stunning summit at 12,500 ft.
Whether you're chasing snowfall, sunrise views, or just your first Himalayan adventure, Kedarkantha offers it all. With breathtaking scenery, well-marked trails, and panoramic mountain views, this trek is ideal for both beginners and seasoned trekkers.
A Summit Sunrise You’ll Never Forget
Trek Leader Aditya recalls,
“Reaching the Kedarkantha summit at dawn was surreal. The snow crunched beneath our feet, and the horizon slowly lit up behind Swargarohini. For a few minutes, everything turned golden. It felt like we were standing on the roof of the world.”
The Kedarkantha summit offers one of the best 360-degree views of Himalayan peaks, including Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and Ranglana. And the beauty is—you don’t need advanced trekking experience to witness it.
Through Forest Trails, Snowy Meadows & Himalayan Villages
The trek begins from the village of Sankri, a scenic hamlet in Uttarkashi. From there, you pass through whispering pine and oak forests, frozen streams, and meadows like Juda Ka Talab. In winter, these trails turn into a snow-covered fairytale, making it a favorite for photographers and snow lovers.
Every campsite is uniquely beautiful—whether it’s the forested calm of Juda Ka Talab, the wide-open space at Kedarkantha Base Camp, or the summit under a starry sky.
Trek Difficulty and Who Can Join
The Kedarkantha Trek is considered easy to moderate, perfect for first-time trekkers, families, solo travelers, and students. Daily trekking distances range from 4 to 6 km, with gradual climbs.
