Field notes

Less guesswork. Better packing.

Pack for your actual route, season and arrangements. Start with a conversation about what you need to bring and what the team provides.

Less guesswork. Better packing.

Begin with the confirmed kit list.

Ask your trek organiser for a route-specific equipment list. Check which camping items are provided, what can be rented and what you must carry yourself.

Think in layers.

Discuss suitable clothing for the expected conditions, including insulation and protection from rain or wind. Keep spare clothing dry and pack with changing weather in mind.

Give your feet some attention.

Choose footwear suited to the terrain and use it before your trip. Ask about footwear expectations for snow or other seasonal conditions rather than assuming one shoe works everywhere.

Keep essentials accessible.

A water bottle, headlamp, personal essentials and weather protection should be easy to find. Follow the team’s instructions about luggage and daypack size.

Pack out what you bring in.

Use reusable items where practical and plan to carry your waste back. Avoid leaving packaging, tissues or food scraps along the route.
